The attack took place around 4:15 a.m., Sunday, June 30, when Alex Rivera, 24, allegedly entered an Elmont apartment and inappropriately touched the victim against her will, Nassau County Police said.
The victim fought with Rivera to get away several times before successfully escaping and alerting her parents of the intruder, police said.
Once the parents were awake, Rivera ran away in an unknown direction, according to police.
Rivera surrendered to police at the 5th Precinct on Tuesday, July 2, at 8:40 a.m.
Rivera was charged with burglary, endangering the welfare of a child, sexual abuse, sexually motivated felony, and unlawful imprisonment.
He is being held and will be arraigned on Wednesday, July 3.
